POEA bars Kuwaiti employer, Ph recruiter from hiring OFWs

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration recently stopped a recruitment
agency and its Kuwaiti employer from further recruiting Filipino workers while it
investigates the various complaints filed against them.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the POEA has motu propio initiated the filing
of recruitment violation cases against Aim High International Placement and its
Kuwaiti employer, Tanzifco Company, WLL after receiving requests for assistance
filed by some 17 OFWs employed by the company from the Philippine Overseas
Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait.

Cacdac said he ordered the temporary suspension of Aim High and Tanzifco because
there is strong evidence that the continued deployment of Filipino workers to the
said employer will result to their further exploitation.

In their affidavits, the OFWs said they were hired by Aim High International as
housekeepers for Tanzifco Company, a cleaning contractor in Kuwait after they paid
placement fees ranging from Php50,000 to PhP54,000.

The workers complained they were not given the salary and other benefits stated in
their contracts.

The OFWs said their contract provides for a salary of 120 Kuwait Dinars for an 8-
hour work per day but they were actually paid 80 Kuwait Dinars. There were no pay
slips issued and there were unexplained salary deductions. The workers also
complained that they were made to work for 12 to 16 hours a day without overtime
pay, and were not allowed to go on sick leave.

The workers said they were assigned in hospitals exposed to health hazards because
they were not given the necessary vaccination or immunization.

They also said they were not given suitable sleeping quarters and kitchen facility.
Cacdac said the names of the respondents shall be included in the POEA list of
agencies and employers temporarily disqualified to recruit and deploy overseas
Filipino workers.
