Filipinos in Laos Welcome Embassy- Organized SSS and PhilHealth Forum

Vientiane
2 August 2013 - Members of the Filipino community in Laos welcomed and expressed much appreciation for the Social Security System (SSS) and PhilHealth forum for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) organized by the Philippine Embassy in Vientiane on July 25 at the Embassy premises.
With PhilHealth Corporate Affairs Group Vice President Gregorio Rulloda, PhilHealth Board Member Jane M.N. Sta. Ana, SSS OFW Management Department Head Joy Villacorta, and SSS Representative in Hongkong Roberto Roldan as resource persons, the various benefits and services available to overseas Filipinos were explained in detail.
PhilHealth Vice President Rulloda highlighted the importance of reactivating membership accounts and expounded on the many benefits provided by Philhealth for OFWs and their dependents. He also explained the OFW contribution schedule and the maximum amount per medical case that may be covered by PhilHealth.
Ms. Villacorta presented the entitlements of SSS members particularly the death claims, sickness and maternity benefits and retirement pension; payment deadline and payment channels.  She also explained the SSS Flexi-fund Program which provides OFWs the opportunity to set aside a part of their earnings abroad and maximize the returns on their Flexi-fund contributions.
PhilHealth and SSS officials also conducted an on-site registration beginning at 1:00 p.m. of the same day.  This lasted all afternoon and through the briefing which ended at 10:30 p.m.  Filipinos in Laos were able to register for SSS numbers, update and verify their records, re-activate their accounts as OFW members, enroll in the SSS Flexi-Fund program and amend their personal data.

An open forum was held after the briefing.  Questions on benefits, loan programs and filing of claims or reimbursements were raised by the audience.  Some members also asked questions regarding the recently-enacted Kasambahay Law.
The forum was well-received and appreciated by Filipinos in Laos.  Many expressed their gratitude to the Embassy for making available such services to the community.  The well-attended event drew some 70 members of the community who stayed until the end of the forum.
The Embassy continues to accept applications on behalf of SSS and PhilHealth. END
