MANILA - The Philippine government is intensifying their intelligence gathering against security threats as the United States government issued a global terror alert on Saturday, closing the operations of their embassies and consulates in the Middle East.
Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez said embassies and consulates abroad remain vigilant as they continue to monitor the situation in their respective areas.
"They have not monitored any specific security threats, but they continue to monitor the situation in the area and they remain vigilant to ensure the security of our personnel and citizens abroad," Hernandez told reporters.
Hernandez added that they have not received requests for assistance from the US government to beef up the security of the US Embassy here in Manila, but said that measures are taken to ensure the security of the public as well as visiting foreigners.
