11 Pinoy machinists in Jeddah accuse employer of physical abuse

Eleven Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia have accused their employer of maltreating them.

Armed with a cellphone video of the alleged maltreatment, the 11 machinists went to the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah earlier this week to ask for assistance.

According to the Filipinos, their employer uses an electric mosquito killer to hit them.

Those who submitted a formal complaint with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office were Ireneo Caviero, Ambrosio Botano Jr., Gel Gal, Darwin Jerome Garcia, Reynan Curay, Sherwin Jabien, Ronaldo Fandagani, Jimmy Salvo, Rolando Barredo, Gerald Barlaan at Renante Villa.

Aside from using an electric mosquito killer to hit them, Gal said their employer also punches them supposedly for being slow on their jobs.

The 11 also accused their employer of making deductions in their salaries supposedly for medical insurance.

Labor Attache Jainal T. Rasul, meanwhile, said they will file a case against the employer.

Fandagani, one of the 11 workers, said the police have already been informed of their case through the consulate's  Assistance to National office. — Ronaldo Concha/KBK, GMA News
