Help sought for Pinay with rare disease in Japan

Ever since undergoing surgery to remove a tumor, a Filipina migrant worker in Japan has been confined in hospital and is now in need of help to combat a rare disease.

Marites Ruiz Albaran, 40, is confined in a hospital in Tokyo because of Lance-Adams Syndrome, a rare complication contracted after a successful revival of a patient who has undergone a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Because of the disease, which only had 150 reported cases worldwide in 2011, she has difficulties in communicating. Other complications meant she still requires assistance in simple tasks such as eating and using the restroom.

The Philippine Embassy in Japan is calling on private institutions or individuals who could help Albaran, whose visa expired in 2002, return to the Philippines, where she could continue her physical therapy and rehabilitation.

The embassy is also calling on Albaran's family, friends, or acquaintances to contact any of the following agencies in order to reach her:

Department of Foreign Affairs
Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA)
2330 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City
Tel. No.: (02) 834-4000 / (02) 834-3243
