47 Pinoys due home from Syria on Saturday - DFA
Another batch of Filipinos repatriated from strife-torn Syria is due to arrive home this Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said late Thursday.
The DFA said the latest batch numbering 47 is to cross the border between Syria and Lebanon on Friday, with help from the Philippine embassy in Damascus.
Once the Filipinos arrive at the border, Philippine embassy personnel will bring them to Rafic Hariri International Airport for an evening flight to Manila.
"They are expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal I on May 18 at 3:55 p.m. via Emirates Airlines flight EK 332,” said the DFA.
Their arrival will bring the number of Filipinos repatriated from Syria to 4,178.
The Philippine embassy in Beirut noted at least 1,115 Filipinos have been repatriated from Syria through Lebanon since cross-border repatriation started in December 2012.
Sporadic fighting around Damascus International Airport had prompted airlines to reduce the frequency or suspend regular international flights to and from Damascus.
Meanwhile, the DFA urged Filipinos still in Syria to seek immediate repatriation.
