Baldoz notes marked increase in Alien Employment Permit inquiries at DOLE Call Center
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday said that the DOLE Call Center has reported a 30 percent increase on queries relating to the issuance of alien employment permit, from 98 last May 2014 to 127 this June 2014.
Citing a report of Director Nicon F. Fameronag of the Labor Communications Office which supervises the DOLE Call Center, Baldoz said the increase in inquiries about the alien employment permit may reflect interest of foreigners to work in the Philippines.
Fameronag reported that total calls received by the DOLE Call Center reached 4,380 in June 2014, forty six (46) calls higher than the 4,334 calls registered the previous month.
Baldoz, in explaining the upsurge in inquiries about the AEP, said that under Article 40 of the Labor Code of the Philippines, as amended, any alien seeking admission to the Philippines for employment purposes, and any domestic or foreign employer who desires to engage an alien for employment in the Philippines, shall obtain an employment permit from the DOLE.
Baldoz issued on 29 February 2012 Department Order No. 120-12, Series of 2012 amending certain provisions of Department Order No. 97-09 on the revised rules for the issuance of employment permits to foreign nationals.
Under the new order, AEP application fee is now pegged at P8,000.00 with a validity of one year, and a premium of P3,000.00 for every additional year. She also said that the system for applying AEP is now online, and a courier fee of P200.00 shall be charged to foreign nationals to access the AEP online application system. Also, any change of information or entries in the application shall be subject to payment of P750.00 for AEP replacement.
“The DOLE Regional Office is mandated to publish all applications for new AEP in a major newspaper and any objections against the employment of the foreign national may be filed within 30 days after publication. If there is no objection, the new AEP will be processed within 24 hours,” she said.
Baldoz reminded companies employing foreign nationals with no valid AEP that the DOLE Regional Director will impose a fine of P10,000.00 for every year against the foreign national who will be found without an AEP, a fine of P10,000.00 for every year against an employer who will be found employing a foreign national without AEP.
