OFW befriended rebels to escape in Libya

MANILA - Several overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) couldn't help but become emotional as they arrived in Manila on Thursday afternoon.
Fifty-one OFWs who were repatriated from Libya arrived at the NAIA at around 4 p.m.
Many of them decided to return home out of fear of being hurt or killed, as the violence continues in Libya.
OFW Alejandro Pacaldor worked as an engine mechanic in Tripoli.
He recounted how rebels would go to their company to grab supplies, such as food and vehicles, in the past two months.
Pacaldor said he befriended some of the rebels, and he escaped after he boarded their vehicle. He went straight to the Philippine embassy.
Even though he could not bring anything, he said he was very happy to return to the Philippines.
The OFWs were welcomed by representatives of the OWWA and Office of the Vice President. They were given kits and free shuttle service.
The OFWs will also receive P10,000 in cash.
Even though many of them were hungry and lacked sleep, the OFWs were thankful to have escaped the violence in Libya and returned home safely.
