MORE OFWs to Arrive Today

The saga of repatriating OFWs from war-torn Libya continues today, Wednesday, with 101 OFWs from Libya to be flown back to the country in two flights.
Qatar Airways will touch down in two airports, one at around 9:45 AM at Clark International Airport yielding 41 OFWs while 70 OFWs will arrive at 4:00 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The OFWs are compelled to go home since the hoisting of Alert Level 4 by the Department of Foreign Affairs calling for mandatory repatriation. The government shoulders the airfares of the displaced OFWs.

The OWWA Airport Assistance Team will be at the airport to facilitate the OFWs’ documents in the Immigration and Customs areas. OWWA will likewise provide transportation service for OFWs living within Metro Manila or they will be housed temporarily at the OWWA Halfway Home before they could proceed to their respective homes.

Displaced OFWs from Libya who arrived on July 20 and onwards will receive Financial Relief Assistance (FRAP) worth P10,000 in addition to the government’s reintegration program for OFWs, or Assist WELL Program which provides welfare, employment, legal and livelihood assistance, including the “Balik-Pinas, Balik-Hanapbuhay” Program.

To date, a total of 1,438 actual returnees from Libya have been served by the OWWA Repatriation Team. More flights are expected in the coming days as the influx of OFWs continues to inquire at the Philippine Embassy in Libya to flee the war-torn state.

There are an estimated 13,000 Filipinos in Libya, many of whom are working in the oil industry, medical field, construction as well as service industry. - END
