DOLE reiterates warning vs. overseas job ads posted online


Filipino jobseekers have been advised anew against job vacancies posted on the internet as they are probably part of a scam.
"I advise jobseekers to be extra careful when looking for overseas job," Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement Tuesday. "Deal only with legitimate recruitment agencies and check with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for proper guidance."
Baldoz issued the statement amid advertisements on the internet, specifically on Facebook, enticing Filipino workers to apply for jobs in the United Kingdom.
POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said one Facebook account used the name of a local licensed recruitment agency to solicit applicants for jobs as factory workers, drivers, gardeners, cleaners, caregivers, nannies and private nurses for the UK.
However, upon verification with the POEA database, the agency's job orders from UK were only for nurses and mostly for National Health Services hospitals, Cacdac said.

Cacdac noted that as a rule, given UK's strict migration policy, household jobs are not allowed to be recruited from non-European Economic Area countries like the Philippines.

"The Facebook advertisement is fraudulent because it promises overseas jobs through direct hiring, without placement fee, and a monthly salary as high as Php200,000, which are too good to be true," he said. —KBK, GMA News
