OWWA Takes Part in First Night Job Market in Region 1
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) took part in the first-ever Night Job Market in Region 1, which was held as part of the celebrations of the 2016 Labor Day  on May 1, 2016.

The first Night Job Market was initiated by the Pangasinan Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office I.

Opened at 6pm up to midnight, the Night Job Market in Lingayen, Pangasinan sought to provide jobseekers alternative experience in looking for employment.  While it spared jobseekers from the summer daytime heat, the Night Job Market also allowed those who are employed at daytime to participate and look for possible better employment.

The OWWA takes pride in its participation to this historic activity. The Family Welfare Officer for Pangasinan, Mr. Khristian Paul Maglaya, assisted around a hundred clients who came in to inquire about OWWA programs and services. Seekers of overseas employment were also advised of the benefits of OWWA membership once they land on overseas work.

DOLE Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua lauded the Pangasinan PESO, headed by Mr. Alex F. Ferrer, for the success of the innovation. “Having it at nighttime means going the extra mile to be of better service to jobseekers and workers alike,” RD Ursua remarked. The activity offered 10,525 jobs, which were pooled from 20 local and overseas employers.

The OWWA Region I also took part in the other jobs fair conducted in line with the 2016 Labor Day. FWO Maglaya also represented the OWWA in the Jobs Fair in Calasiao Sports Gymnasium in Calasiao, Pangasinan. OIC Director Sergio B. Borgueta, Jr., Reintegration Unit Head Dolly Ann Camacho, La Union FWO Vera Andrei O. Ladio, and LCO Justin Paul D. Marbella, participated in the Jobs Fair at the SM Rosales, in Rosales, Pangasinan. FWO for Ilocos Norte, Ms. Khrisna Joy Lagmay, took part of the activity at the Robinsons Mall in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.

OWWA OIC Director Borgueta said the agency’s participation to the Jobs Fair aids in its campaign for pre-departure education for would-be OFWs. “While the OWWA’s mandate is to protect and promote the welfares of Filipinos who are already contract workers abroad, we also keenly participate in these jobs fairs to show jobseekers that should they wish to work abroad, their OWWA membership is vital,” OIC Borgueta says.
