Pinoys hailed as best community in Qatar labor awards

The Filipino community in Qatar has been recognized at the Labour Welfare Awards 2015 for being one of the most organized communities there, a report on the Peninsula said.
Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo Santos received the Best Community Award on behalf of the community at the event, held at the opening of the third annual Labor Rights Protection Conference on May 2.
In his speech, Santos said the award is a "testament to the smooth coordination" between the Filipino community, the embassy, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and other stakeholders.
According to the Peninsula report, the Filipino community was chosen for "its constant communication and cooperation with authorities in the state," and "for its active participation in various national events."
Santos said Filipinos are the third largest expatriate community in Qatar.
The awarding ceremony and the conference, which coincided with International Workers' Day, recognized individuals and organizations that made significant contributions to labor and workers' rights.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, chairman of the Qatar chamber, sponsored the ceremony and the conference that centered around labor protection and reforms. Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
