The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday confirmed the death of Jastin Valdez, a Filipina student found dead in Co Wicklow, Ireland two days after she was abducted on her way home.
Ambassador to London Antonio Lagdameo in a statement said the honorary consul in Dublin confirmed reports that the body found near an abandoned mine in Puck's Court Lane belonged to Valdez.
"On behalf of the government, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and pray for her eternal repose and we offer a hand of assistance and support in this very challenging and trying times," Lagdameo said.
Valdez was found lifeless near the disused Ballycorus lead mine, some distance away from where authorities found the car used by the only suspect in the case, Mark Hennessy, to abduct the student as she walked home to Enniskerry.
Police investigations revealed that Valdez was strangled 45 minutes after Hennessy abducted her.
Hennessy was killed in an altercation with police a day after the Filipina's disappearance
Valdez is survived by her parents and was commemorated with a candlelight vigil by residents and the Filipino community in Enniskerry and neighboring villages in the Irish countryside. — MDM, GMA News
