Locsin: PHL grateful for efforts behind release of Filipino hostages in Libya
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. has expressed his gratitude to the individuals who helped in the efforts to free three Filipinos who were taken hostage in Libya last July.
On Friday evening, the United Arab Emirates foreign ministry announced that three Filipino civil engineers and a South Korean colleague were released.
When asked for a comment, Locsin told GMA News Online that "Now that they're safe it can be told; but the how, again I won't tell because, as Jack Nicholson said, "the public can't stand to know the truth" which will be imperiled in its hands."
"But to the powers that made it possible: Thank you, thank you. To meddlers: f**k you."
In a report posted by the Agence France-Presse, the UAE foreign ministry said the engineers were held by unidentified armed groups and were freed through joint efforts by Abu Dhabi and military strongman Khalifa Hafter's Libyan National Army.
The Filipinos and the Korean will be sent home but there were no details provided as of posting time. —BAP, GMA News
