DOLE forms crisis response team for OFWs in Libya
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has created a Libya Crisis Quick Response Team that will coordinate with other government agencies in ensuring the safety and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the troubled country.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz's Administrative Order No. 262, Series of 2014 also tasked the quick response team to closely monitor and assess the situation of Filipino workers in Libya.
The quick response team was also ordered to submit regular reports and recommendations to the Secretary through the Office of the Undersecretary for Employment.
"I have created this quick response team in view of the continuing deterioration of the political and security situation in Libya as indicated by the decision of the Department of Foreign Affairs to raise the crisis alert level status for Libya from Crisis Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) to Crisis Alert Level 3 (Voluntary Repatriation Phase)," Baldoz said in a statement.
The team will be headed by Philippine Overseas Employment Administration Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac. It will be made up of officials from the POEA, Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration and the DOLE's International Labor Affairs Bureau.
"Members of the Libyan Crisis Quick Response Team are instructed to prepare for possible deployment to Libya as augmentation team should the need arises," Baldoz added.
There are an estimated 12,000 OFWs in Libya. —NB, GMA News
