POEA: Recruiter suspended for providing UAE-bound OFW 2 visas
A recruitment agency has been slapped a preventive suspension for allegedly issuing two visas to an overseas Filipino worker bound for the United Arab Emirates last April.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration on Sunday said Chanceteam International Services Inc. issued the visas to a household service worker.
"With the order of preventive suspension, Chanceteam International Services, Inc. cannot recruit or deploy overseas Filipino workers until further ordered by the POEA," it said in a statement posted onTwitter by POEA head Hans Leo Cacdac.
Cacdac said Chanceteam committed serious violations including misrepresentation and falsification of travel documents.
He added its continued operation will lead to further violation and exploitation of workers.
An investigation showed the agency tried to send the female worker to Dubai via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 with visas for “sales staff” and “servant."
But the worker was held after she presented two different visas for pre-departure verification at the NAIA Labor Assistance Center.
Upon questioning, the worker admitted she was going to work as a domestic helper in Dubai.
She said an agent of Chanceteam gave her two UAE visas for her flight on April 14 and instructed her to present the visa bearing the “sales staff” position at the airport.
The worker added she was told to present the “servant” visa to her employer in Dubai.
When she reported to the recruitment agency the day after her failed departure, the agent told her to tell the POEA officers that her cousin in Dubai got the “servant” on her behalf but she absentmindedly brought it to the airport. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
