FVR meets with Pinoy WWII veterans in LA
Former President Fidel V. Ramos met with Filipino-American World War II veterans in the United States during his visit to Los Angeles earlier this week.
In a meeting at the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall on May 26, Memorial Day, Ramos urged the veterans and their advocates to continue lobbying to include Medical Portability Act that would allow US medical recipients to use their government-subsidized health benefits in the Philippines.
Ramos, chairman of the Honorary Advisory Board of the Filipino Veterans Foundation in Los Angeles, is a former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff who had his military schooling in the US.
A news release from the Department of Foreign Affairs said during the event, the veterans raised their difficulties in claiming their pension benefits from the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office due to the process of confirming yearly that they are alive.
They also voiced their concerns over denied lump sums in the US and problems with Philippine pensions. —KBK, GMA News
