Pinay in UAE gets 3-year jail term for abusing sponsor’s child

A United Arab Emirates court on Thursday sentenced a Filipina housemaid to three years in jail after she pleaded guilty to beating and strangling her employer's four-year-old son.

The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanor Court also ordered the Filipina's deportation once the Filipina served her jail term, UAE news site Gulf News reported Friday.

Citing court records, the report said the incident occurred some months back, with the sponsor catching the maid abusing the boy.

He suspected the housemaid, who the report said is in her 40s, was physically abusing the boy after noticing the child was scared of the maid.

The boy had bruises on different parts of his body.

When the family monitored the maid's behavior, they eventually caught her beating the child and trying to strangle him.

The maid was arrested and interrogated, and police referred the case to the Public Prosecution.  —Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
