‘Island paradise’ awaits peacekeepers from Ebola-hit Liberia
The Filipino peacekeepers who are coming home from Ebola-hit Liberia will be quarantined in an "island paradise" instead of being kept in a facility in Tarlac, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said on Tuesday.
"[The] chief of staff (Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr.) has decided to put them in a secluded place. Nabanggit naman niya 'yung sinabi na that (it) is an island paradise but I could(n't) disclose the exact location," AFP Public Information Office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said.
Cabunoc, nonetheless, said the island is in Luzon.
The Department of Health (DOH) and other agencies have requested that the location be kept secret since they were still making sure the necessary facilities were complete.
"Alam naman natin na hindi naman designed (the location) for quarantine purposes, so 'yung facilities doon, i-enhance, ayusin, linisan kaya maghahanda pa.... Siyempre gusto natin na ma-comply 'yung lahat ng hinihingi ng DOH na ito 'yung mga parameters na isolated," Cabunoc said.
Cabunoc also said authorities were also making sure the residents of the island would remain safe from Ebola.
"'Yung nakatira doon maa-address na 'yun lahat na maging safe dahil ang DOH na mismo ang magpaliwanag na Ebola is not (an) airborne disease at saka hindi nakakahawa hangga't hindi maging asymptomatic," he said.

It was previously reported that the 112 peacekeepers will be quarantined in the Peacekeeping Operations Center (PKOC) in Camp O’Donnel in Capas, Tarlac for 21 days.
In a text message to GMA News Online, Cabunoc explained the change of location.
"The AFP wants a better place where the protocols of the DOH can be followed," Cabunoc said.
