UAE court upholds corporal’s jail term for molesting Pinay

A United Arab Emirates court has upheld a three-month jail term slapped on a corporal who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a Filipina.

The Emirati corporal, 26, was accused of kissing, touching and groping a Filipina he met on a social networking site, Khaleej Times reported Wednesday.

In its decision, the Court of Cassation noted the incident occurred on Nov. 20 last year at the parking lot of a shopping center.

Court records showed the corporal took off the Filipina's shirt and threatened to kill her if she screamed.

The Filipina, 25, said she met the defendant on Facebook and then stayed in touch with him for over a week via a chat messenger.

Last July, the Court of First Instance sentenced the corporal to two years in prison on a sexual assault charge, but the corporal denied the charges and claimed the woman offered herself to him. He had his jail term reduced to three months in September.

Investigation showed that on the day of the incident, the two went out and the corporal drove the Filipina around for an hour then parked his car outside a hotel. The Filipina said the corporal then covered the car's windshield and tried to force himself on her.

At first, she tried to call the police from her cell phone and then pressed the car horn. But he grabbed her face and threatened to kill her.

The woman managed to honk and open the car’s door, but the corporal then threw her outside and sped away.

A police sergeant said they found the woman’s clothes and purse in the defendant’s car. The case is now closed, the report said. Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
