UAE court sentences Saudi national to 3 months for groping Pinay

A United Arab Emirates court this week sentenced a Saudi national to three months in jail for groping a Filipina waitress at a cafe in Dubai last August.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 36-year-old Saudi national in absentia, when he failed to show up in court, UAE news site Gulf News reported Saturday.

Court records showed the incident occurred at a cafe on Shaikh Zayed Road, when the Filipina waitress was taking the Saudi national's order.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi also ordered the accused deported once he completes his sentence.

However, the report said the accused is entitled to a retrial once he surrenders to the court.

Investigation showed the Saudi groped the Filipina waitress, then touched her again even when she yelled at him.

The Filipina told prosecutors the Saudi was with three companions at the time.

“In the beginning he put his finger on my stomach... I told him to stop. Then he said ‘this is not silly, what is coming next is silly’... then he groped me on top. Then he and his friends laughed,” she said.

An Egyptian waiter at the café said he saw the accused touching the Filipina indecently.

Aside from the jail term, meanwhile, the Dubai Misdemeanors Court fined the Saudi Dh1,000 for consuming liquor. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
