150,000 Pinoy workers needed in Qatar –report

Qatar has opened 150,000 job opportunities for Filipinos in preparation for its hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a report on “24 Oras” said Thursday, citing the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“Mahusay na di hamak kasi ang mga Pilipino kahit saan mo dalhin,” said DOLE spokesman Nicon Fameronag in the report.

The report said aside from the initial 500 job vacancies for medical technicians and nurses at Sidra Medical And Research Center in Doha, Qatar is also in need of architects, master electricians, dentists, hotel and resort workers, mechanics, and safety officers.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has already received 78,000 job orders from Qatar, the report said.

Fameronag, meanwhile, reminded would-be OFWs that employment agencies are not allowed to charge recruitment fees.

“Walang recruitment fee na sisingilin ang mga ahensiya o sinuman sa mga manggagawang Pilipino,” he said.

Would-be OFWs are encouraged to visit the POEA website for the list of accredited recruitment agencies. —KBK, GMA News
