Singapore-based OFW to represent PHL in latte art competition in Sweden

A Filipino barista working in Singapore will be the Philippines' representative to the prestigious World Latte Art Championship to be held in Sweden, a television report said Tuesday.

Mark Chan earned the spot after besting nine other contestants in the recently held Philippine National Latte Art Championship, a report on “24 Oras” said.

It will be the first time that the Philippines will field a contestant to the World Latte Art Championship, the report said.

“First time na magkakaroon tayo ng latte art [competiton] sa Philippines, syempre yung Filipino barista community dito sa Singapore sobrang solid yung support,” said Chan, who flew to the Philippines just to join the competiton.

The report said Chan wowed the judges with patterns like Semi-Picasso Swan, Three-Layered Tulips, and Inverted Tulips.

“It highlights the artistic expression of the baristas,” said May Juan, executive director of the Association of Filipino Baristas, of the local competition. “The latte art competiton is more on the design on the latte drink that we normally iniinom.”

The World Latte Art Championship will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, this June. —KBK, GMA News
