PHL Embassy in Riyadh to extend expired passports for up to 1 year

Citing present disruptions due to the upgrading of the Philippine e-Passport system, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh is extending and revalidating expired or expiring passports for up to one year.

In a news release, the embassy said this is due to the operational disruptions resulting from the systems transition and upgrade of the e-Passport system.

It said the transitional issues have prompted it to implement the following measures starting Feb. 23:

- revalidate expired Philippine passports, including e-Passports, with a validity of one year
- extend the validity of expiring passports, including e-Passports, for one year.

But revalidation or extension will be under these conditions:

- applicants have an urgent and legitimate need to travel
- extension or revalidation is based on the premise the passport whose renewal is being sought may not be available for release on time for the applicant's scheduled travel
- applicants must submit a signed request for extension or revalidation.

The embassy said the revalidation and extension of passports is a temporary measure during the transition and upgrading period. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
