DFA: 14 OFWS killed in vehicular accident in Saudi

Fourteen Filipinos aboard their service shuttle were killed in a vehicular accident in Saudi Arabia while they were being transported to their sleeping quarters, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

“Our embassy coordinated with the company that they are working for and the initial information that we got was that the Filipinos on the coaster met an accident while on their way to their accommodation from their work site,” Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said.

A report on "24 Oras" Wednesday night, citing the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia, said 13 people were killed in the incident.

Besides the fatalities, Jose said there are also unconfirmed number of seriously injured Filipinos that were brought to the intensive care unit.

Jose could not confirm the exact number of the Filipinos on board the vehicle, saying the DFA has yet to receive a comprehensive report from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

Their vehicle collided with a delivery truck in Al-Ahsa, a province in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

The "24 Oras" report said Philippine officials in Saudi Arabia are already coordinating with the victims' employer. —Michaela del Callar/KBK, GMA News
