Pinoys in Ecuador scared but safe after powerful quake –consu

No Filipinos were hurt in the magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Ecuador over the weekend, leaving over 200 people dead.

"We are so thankful to our dear Lord for making us all Filipinos safe here in Ecuador,” said Honorary Consul Corazon Oliva de Reyes in an email to GMA News Online. "No one suffered or got injured but we all got scared."
The death toll from Ecuador’s biggest earthquake in decades has reached 272 as of Monday (Philippine time) with over 2,500 more injured.
The quake struck off the Pacific coast on Saturday and was felt around the Andean nation of 16 million people, causing panic as far away as the highland capital Quito and destroying buildings, bridges and roads.
"We are all blessed to be safe and sound here in Ecuador," De Reyes said.
There were only 120 Filipinos in Ecuador as of December 2013, according to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. —KBK, GMA News
