Stranded Pinoy World Youth Day 2016 delegates leave Manila

Filipino pilgrims were finally able to leave the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday evening, following the cancellation of their flight due to the coup attempt in Turkey.
Around 85 World Youth Day delegates of the Manila archdioese got stuck at the NAIA after their connecting Turkish Airlines flight to Warsaw, Poland via Istanbul decided to cancel due to the coup attempt in Turkey.
The delegates, composed of groups from the cities of Manila, Pasig, and Caloocan, were given accomodations overnight in hotels near the airport.
The Filipino pilgrims will join World Youth Day 2016 to held in Krakow, Poland from July 25 to 31.
Flights to Istanbul’s international airport were halted for nearly a day due to the coup attempt.
At least 300 people died and 6,000 more have been arrested in the failed coup plot in Turkey. —Kiersnerr Gerwin Tacadena/ALG, GMA News
