Eight OFWs nabbed in Hong Kong for allegedly joining loan shark's syndicate

Eight overseas Filipino workers were arrested in Hong Kong for their alleged involvement in illegal lending, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.
Also arrested were two Chinese nationals said to be the financiers of the syndicate.
The alleged modus involves the granting of loans to OFWs in exchange for their passports and employment contracts as collateral.
The interest on the loans ran up to 10 percent per month, the report said.
Recovered during the raid conducted by authorities were more than 200 passports of victims, bank documents, and employment contracts.
Authorities are coordinating with the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong on the fate of the arrested OFWs. —KG, GMA News
