Family of OFW beaten to death in Kuwait gets financial assistance

The family of Amy Capulong Santiago, the Filipino worker who was allegedly beaten to death by her employers in Kuwait, has received financial assistance from Kuwait-based Filipino organizations to help them get back on their feet.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III handed over the check to Santiago's husband and daughter on Thursday. The financial assistance came from the Philippine Association of Accredited Agencies to Kuwait (PHILAAK) and the Kuwait Association of Agencies.
PHILAAK President Amanda Araneta and various PHILAAK and KAA members along with the governing board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) witnessed the handing over of the check..
The OFW died the same day that Jakatia Pawa, an OFW convicted of killing her employer's adult daughter in 2007, was executed.
Records of Abdullah Al Mubarak Police Directorate General of Criminal Evidence showed that Santiago had old and fresh bruises on her body at the time of her death.
Though authorities have yet to disclose the cause of her death, both of her employers have been detained and are under investigation. Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
