GMA Int’l marks 117th PHL Independence Day with patriotic events in California, Washington

Celebrating ten years of being one in heart with Filipinos around the globe, GMA International commemorates the 117th Philippine Independence Day by holding various events in key cities in the United States in partnership with the biggest Filipino-American organizations and communities.

In California, GMA International will participate in two commemorative events to mark the Independence Day celebration - the Philippine Independence Day in Carson and the Mabuhay Festival 2015 in San Diego.

Kapuso leading man Alden Richards, who recently participated in the successful Kapusong Pinoy shows in Vancouver and Anaheim, will join the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Carson City, where he will take part in a meet and greet session.

“I’m very excited to re-unite with our kababayans abroad and celebrate such an important milestone in Philippine history with them,” shares Alden, who portrayed the role of Jose Rizal in the Philippines’ first-ever bayaniserye Ilustrado.

Presented by the Philippine Independence Day Foundation (PIDF, Inc.) of Carson in cooperation with the Cities of Carson and Los Angeles, the daylong celebration, dubbed as the biggest and most anticipated annual event in Los Angeles, will be held on June 6 (Saturday) at the Veterans Park.

Meanwhile, GMA International will also keep the Filipino spirit alive in San Diego as it takes part in the Mabuhay Festival 2015 for the second consecutive year.

The event, organized by the Mabuhay Foundation, will take place on June 13 (Saturday) at the Kimball Park in National City. The Mabuhay Festival will include various events, awards and cultural performances with at least 5,000 spectators expected to join the event.

Lastly, the 117th Philippine Independence Day Celebration over in Seattle, Washington titled Pagdiriwang Philippine Festival 2015 will also feature Alden, who is just as excited to meet his kababayans there. The two-day event, which will run from June 6 to 7, will be held at the Seattle Center. Alden’s meet and greet session will be held on June 7.

Spearheaded by the Filipino Cultural Heritage Society of Washington (FCHSW), the event with the theme “Mindanao” is one of 23 ethnic festivals under the Féstal Cultural Festivals Program of Seattle Center, which features performing, visual, culinary, literary, musical, and martial arts. There will also be arts and artifacts exhibits and other relevant exhibits depicting Philippine history and culture. At least 8,000 attendees are expected to join this yearly celebration.
