10 more file complaints vs. Mary Jane recruiter –NBI

Ten more complainants attesting to Maria Kristina “Tintin” Sergio's alleged illegal activities have submitted their affidavits to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), bolstering the case against the recruiter blamed for Mary Jane Veloso's ordeal in Indonesia.

“Tumibay 'yung ating ebidensiya na talagang nagri-recruit si Miss Tintin,” said lawyer Bassit Sarip of the NBI's Anti-Human Trafficking Division in a report on “24 Oras” Tuesday.

Veloso, whose execution for drug smuggling in Indonesia was temporarily put on hold last week, has accused Sergio of tricking her into bringing a suitcase with 2.6 kilos of heroin to Indonesia in April 2010. Both are from Nueva Ecija in the Philippines.

Sarip said based on the affidavits of the 10 victims, Sergio would lure her victims by promising them jobs as domestic helpers abroad.

One of the complainants was a relative of a Filipino arrested in Hong Kong for bringing 800 grams of heroin stashed inside a bag allegedly given by Sergio.

“Ni-recruit para magtrabaho as domestic helper sa Thailand tapos pinadala ng luggage sa Hong Kong so doon siya nahuli,” Sarip said.

He also questioned why Sergio, whose travel records show she went out of the country 18 times from 2009 to 2010, would accompany her recruits abroad.

“Kataka-taka 'yun kung bakit sasamahan pa ng recruiter 'yung kanyang recruit,” he said.

Sarip added that they have “leads” showing Sergio, who is now in police custody, is connected with a West African drug syndicate based in Malaysia.

Before Veloso was arrested in Indonesia, Sergio accompanied her to Malaysia, then sent her to Indonesia with the suitcase while Sergio returned to the Philippines.

The complainants said Sergio, who is facing illegal recruitment, human trafficking and estafa charges, had promised them jobs in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Andrei Medina and John Consulta/KBK, GMA News
