PNoy to Pinoys in Chicago: Support admin’s candidate in 2016

President Benigno Aquino III has urged Filipinos in Chicago to support the administration's candidate in the 2016 elections to ensure the continuation of the country's “transformation.”

Although he has been tightlipped on his chosen successor, Aquino has dropped hints in past interviews on how he will choose whom he will support in the 2016 presidential race.

He has repeatedly said he will anoint someone who will continue his reform programs, and someone who “treads the straight path.” Aquino also earlier said he wants to relinquish his post to a friend.

Leaders of the ruling Liberal Party have been consistent in naming Interior Secretary Mar Roxas as their standard-bearer for the 2016 polls.

Gains

In his speech in Chicago, Aquino trumpeted the gains achieved by his administration, particularly in improving the economy and in the fight against corruption.

Aquino said there has been a notable increase in foreign direct investments since he assumed office in 2010.

479.28 percent increase po yan," he said.

“Good governance equals good economics, equals good quality inclusive growth. Kaya po sa usaping pang-ekonomiya, kalimutan na natin ang bansag na Sick Man of Asia; ang turing sa atin ng ibang bansa ngayon, Darling of Asia," he added.

Aquino arrived at the O'Hare International airport early Thursday (PHL time) for a meeting with the US Chamber of Commerce and the US ASEAN Business Council. He is set to fly to Canada next for a three-day state visit. —KBK, GMA News
