UP Cebu’s institutional video wins international award
The Philippines received another international honor after an institutional video of the University of the Philippines-Cebu won the 5th QS-Maple Conference and Exhibit award for Most Creative Corporate Institution Video.
Prof. Gregg Lloren, the video’s creative director, received the award in behalf of UP Cebu community at the awarding at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar this week.
“This puts UP Cebu in the map of academic institutions that lead in creative and persuasive visual communication,” Lloren said.
In the video, UP Cebu focused on the Cebuano “pusô” (hanging rice) as a metaphor for education.

QS-MAPLE is an international body of academic professionals that aims to “contribute to building world-class universities for Middle Eastern and North African communities through the exchange of best practice and global partnership," UP Cebu noted.

The UP Cebu video focused on the family’s struggle to earn excellent education and the responsibility of giving back to the community.
"At the center of it is the Cebuano rice preparation called 'pusô,' rice boiled inside weaved coconut fronds," it said.

Prof. Ligaya Rabago played the mother in the video, while members of the UPC UPSTAGE theater group played the other characters.

“Last year, we won silver. But this…this gave me goosebumps,” UP Cebu quoted the dean of the arts and sciences department of the University of Kuwait as saying.
