92-year-old Pinay, daughter killed in California car crash

A 92-year-old Filipina and her 61-year-old daughter were killed when a car, reportedly driven by a drunk driver, crashed into their vehicle in Santa Clara, California, last week, reports said.
The victims, Angela Bontilao and her daughter Carina Kubow, were reportedly conducting the traditional Visita Iglesia last Maundy Thursday (US time) when the accident happened.
report on Mercury News said Bontilao and Kubow were leaving Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara with other family members when the car driven by the suspect, Vinod Kumar N Bonthu, crashed into their vehicle head-on.
The two women, who were at the back seat, died on the spot, the report said. Their car was being driven by Bontilao's granddaughter, Jeanique Dioso.
Bonthu, 26, was arrested but was released to Valley Medical Center to undergo treatment for his injuries.
Investigators said Bonthu lost control of his Mercedes-Benz C-230, causing it to go off the road, hit a raised curb, jumped the center median of the highway, and go into the opposite lane, eventually crashing into the victims' Subaru Forester.
separate report on ABC 7 News quoted family members of the victims as saying that they were visiting various churches for Maundy Thursday when the accident occurred.
Bonthu, according to both reports, is facing felony DUI and vehicular manslaugther charges.
GoFundMe account was set up for the victims to help their families cope up with the expenses.  —KBK, GMA News
