Pinoys to enjoy visa-free entry to Taiwan starting June

Filipino citizens will be allowed visa-free access to Taiwan under a temporary policy that will start in June, according to a report on Taiwan News, citing Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The report said the new policy, which will be implemented on a trial basis for one year starting June 1, 2017, will allow Filipinos to stay in Taiwan without visa for up to 30 days.
With the move, Taiwan expects to encourage more tourists from South and Southeast Asia to visit Taiwan, the report said.
Taiwan's government is currently implementing a "New Southbound Policy" that aims to forge closer trade and economic ties with countries in South and Southeast Asia.
At present, Filipinos who can enjoy visa-free access to Taiwan for up to 30 days are those who have never worked in Taiwan as a blue collar worker, and those who hold valid visas or permanent resident cards of USA, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Schengen, Australia and New Zealand.
The Taiwan News report said MECO has also extended the 30-day visa exemption for citizens of Thailand and Brunei to one year. —KBK, GMA News
