OFW in Jeddah eyes suit vs. doctor over botched surgery

A Filipino worker in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has sought the help of the Philippine Consulate in going after the doctor who allegedly botched an operation on his gallbladder, a report on "Balitanghali" said Monday.
According to Jomel Barangan, a test in a different hospital from where he had the operation found out that the doctor, who was not identified in the report, hit other vital organs during the surgery, resulting in an infection.
Barangan, in an interview with GMA News, said his condition even worsened in the three months following the operation.
The report said Barangan sought the consulate's help in suing the doctor with medical malpractice.

Aside from this, the Filipino also complained about the hospital's supposed lack of consideration for his welfare.
"Ang dahilan kung bakit nila ako dinischarge ay dahil kulang sila sa kagamitan, tapos parang hindi nila yata ako kaya doon. Pinag-taxi pa ako na may dala-dalang tubo," he said.
Barangan said the experience traumatized him, even though his new doctor had advised him to undergo another surgery.
The consulate, for its part, said it is ready to assist Barangan.
"Sasamahan po siya sa police station para mag-file ng complaint," a staff member said in the report. —with Ronaldo Concha/KBK, GMA News
