MANILA - A Manila-bound Philippine Airlines flight from Saudi Arabia failed to take off due to engine trouble, stranding hundreds of passengers on Friday.
One of the passengers, Virginia Medina told DZMM that she estimated PR 655 had some 300 people on board.
Medina said the plane was supposed to depart the King Salid International Airport in Riyadh late Thursday, but they were asked to disembark due to engine failure.
"Nagkaroon ng issue ang aming eroplano pero nakakasiguro sila na ginagawan na ng solusyon ito. Humihingi lang kami ng pangunawa mula sa aming pasahero," PAL spokeswoman Cielo Villaluna said in a separate DZMM interview.
(Our airplane had issues but you can be sure that we are working on a solution. We ask for understanding from our passengers.)
Villaluna said PAL would have the flight back in Manila by Saturday.
Medina said passengers whose visas have not yet expired were booked in hotels, while those whose exit permits have already been stamped spent the night at the airport.
