CIDG nabs Syrian illegal recruiter

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Friday arrested a Syrian national allegedly involved in the illegal recruitment of overseas Filipino workers.

The CIDG identified the suspect as 31-year-old Adulkarim Mohammad Majed, a resident of Imus, Cavite.

The CIDG said they caught the suspect in an entrapment operation inside an establishment in Ermita on Friday afternoon.

The police recovered two Philippine passports owned by Majed's alleged victims whom he had promised to send to the United Arab Emirates.

The case stemmed from a tip from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission after it rescued four victims in Mindanao that the suspect also allegedly recruited.

Philippine Overseas Employment Agency records show that the suspect was not authorized to recruit and deploy workers abroad.

Majed faces illegal recruitment charges and is currently being held in a CIDG facility.  Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
