PHL envoys honored for exemplary work in China, UK

Two Philippine ambassadors were honored with separate media awards in March and April this year for their work in improving bilateral relations between the Philippines and China and the United Kingdom.

Philippine Ambassador to the UK Enrique Manalo was named Diplomat of the Year from Asia by DIPLOMAT Magazine on April 20, while Home and Abroad News Press gave its News Person of the Year award to Philippine Ambassador to China Erlinda F. Basilio last March 18.

Manalo was recognized for improving bilateral relations between the Philippines and the UK and for "raising the profile of the Philippines and Asia as leader of the ASEAN London Committee (ALC) and chairman of the General Assembly of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) in London."

Manalo received the award in the presence of over 250 diplomats, including Ambassadors and High Commissioners from 80 countries, according to a news release from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Basilio, on the other hand, was honored for “bringing her unique woman's diplomatic demeanor to convey the everlasting friendship and great kindness” and for “making remarkable contributions to continuously promote the cooperation between China and the Philippines and maintain regional peace, stability and dynamic development in Asia.”

Diplomats from 180 countries vote for the DIPLOMAT's award to recognize their achievements in the field, while the News Person of the Year award recognizes persons "who made remarkable contributions to the international society." Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
