UAE court sentences driver to 3 years for rape try on Pinay

A United Arab Emirates court has sentenced a Pakistani driver to three years in jail for trying to rape a Filipina waitress last November.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Pakistani, 28, of using violence and attempting to have forced sex with the Filipina, 21, Gulf News reported late Sunday.

The Filipina had managed to escape by jumping from the window of a first-floor flat and injuring herself, the report said.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi also ordered the defendant deported once he serves his sentence.

However, the ruling handed down last Wednesday is subject to appeal within 15 days.

Court records showed the Pakistani lured the Filipina waitress to the flat, claiming he wanted to get to some papers from his office.

Once inside, he locked the door, then removed his clothes and undressed the Filipina and attempted to rape her.

But the Filipina convinced the Pakistani to get her water to drink. Once the Pakistani went to the kitchen to get the water, the half-dressed Filipina jumped from the window.

She fractured her hips when she landed on the pavement and lost consciousness, and was rushed to a hospital.

However, the Pakistani insisted he was innocent, saying he did not try to rape her.

"She rode with me in my car and agreed to accompany me to the flat to have consensual sex. After I undressed both of us, she suddenly decided to stop. Then she ran to the window and jumped,” the Gulf News report quoted the Pakistani as saying.

On the other hand, prosecutors said the Pakistani picked up the waitress from the street and stopped in Freij Al Murar, claiming he wanted to retrieve work papers from his office.

While the Filipina accompanied him to the flat, the defendant locked the door and attempted to rape her.

Medical reports confirmed the Filipina sustained fractures in her hips and bruises to her knee.

Also, a Pakistani shopkeeper said he called up the police after the woman landed in front of his shop on the pavement.

For his part, a police lieutenant said the Pakistani turned himself in and claimed that he agreed to have consensual sex with the waitress.  Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
