Fil-Am actress Vanessa Hudgens stars on Broadway

Fil-Am actress and singer Vanessa Anne Hudgens is currently lighting up the stage playing the title role in the revival Broadway musical “Gigi.”

Her character originally starred the legendary actress Audrey Hepburn in her first major role.

According to Wikipedia, “Gigi” is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It is based on the novella Gigi by Colette and 1958 hit musical film of the same name.

The story concerns Gigi, a free-spirited teenaged girl living in Paris at the turn of the 20th century. She is being groomed as a courtesan in her family’s tradition.

But before she is deemed ready for her social debut, she encounters the bon vivant bachelor Gaston Lachaille, whom she captivates as she is transformed into a charmingly poised young lady.

A new production of the musical, adapted by Heidi Thomas and directed by Eric D. Schaeffer, premiered at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.) in January 2015, and opened on Broadway on April 8, 2015 at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Hudgens, 26, is best known in the “High School Musical” series that aired on the Disney Channel. She played Gabriella Montez, alongside her co-star Zac Efron. They had a highly publicized relationship, but it ended in December 2010. Efron was known as a teen idol after the “High School Musical” series.

Born in Salinas, California, Hudgens is of Filipino-Chinese-Spanish descent on her mother’s side; and her father is of Irish and Native American descent.

Her Filmography includes: “Thirteen,” “Thunderbirds,” “High School Musical,” “High School Musical 2,” “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” “Bandslam,” “Beastly,” “Sucker Punch,” “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” “Spring Breakers,” “The Frozen Ground,” “Machete Kills,” “Gimme Shelter” and “Kitchen Sink.”

Her television credits are: “Still Standing,” “Robbery Homicide Division,” “The Brothers García,” “Quintuplets,” “Drake & Josh,” “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,” “Robot Chicken,” “Punk’d” and “Inner Circle.”

She also performed as Mimi Marquez in the 2010 “Rent.”

Sky’s the limit for this young actress and singer, whether she is gracing the screen or on stage.

You can catch Hudgens on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre at 250 West 52nd Street in midtown-Manhattan.
