DOLE reassures Pinoys repatriated from Libya and Yemen of assistance
The Department of Labor and Employment on Saturday reassured overseas Filipino workers repatriated from strife-torn Libya and Yemen of financial and livelihood assistance so they can make ends meet for now.
DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the assurance holds even if some highly skilled and highly paid OFWs from Libya and Yemen may want to wait for the situation there to improve so they can return there.
A report on dzBB radio Saturday noon said a batch of Filipinos repatriated from Yemen arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport before noon.
"Yung gustong mag-avail ng livelihood, lalo na para sa kanilang pamilya rito, mayroon ding ganoong assistance... For those who want to be transferred in other areas sa ibang bansa, then mayroong employment facilitation assistance na ibibigay sa kanila," she said on government-run dzRB radio.
She also said a cash assistance of P10,000 for the repatriated OFWs from Yemen and Libya is being deliberated on.
Moreover, Baldoz said the repatriated Filipinos may avail of welfare, employment, legal and livelihood assistance upon their return.
"So sa airport pa lang sinasalo na sila ng (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration), lalo na kung walang pamilya na susundo sa kanila. Kung kailangan nilang mag-overnight, binibigyan sila ng lodging facility, pati transportation," she said.
Those with claims from employers can avail of legal assistance, she added.
Also, those who do not want to settle in the Philippines can get assistance in being re-deployed to other countries.
"Depende sa kanila kung ano ang desisyon nila. Kasi yung experience naman talaga namin, usually gusto nilang magpahinga rito, tapos hihintayin nila kung matapos na yung emergency, babalik sila doon. Kaya nga after 2011 marami na ngang nabalik din doon ulit e, ganoon ang kanilang nagiging desisyon," she said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
