Illegal recruiter hunted for fleecing Ilocos jobseekers of P1.185M
The National Bureau of Investigation is tracking down an illegal recruiter who had fleeced prospective overseas Filipino workers in Ilocos of more than P1 million.
At least 10 victims from Laoag City have lodged complaints against the suspect identified as Rose Calipco, GMA Ilocos reported Thursday.
"Sa ngayon, mahigpit ang imbestigasyon ng NBI para matunton kung saan nagtatago ang suspek," NBI Laoag, Ilocos Norte agent-in-charge Diosdado Araos said.
An investigation showed Calipco had promised her victims jobs in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and South Korea.
One of the victims, "Betty," told GMA Ilocos they even underwent seminars and training sessions.
But they got suspicious when the suspect disappeared when they were heading for Metro Manila for a pre-departure orientation seminar before their flight. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
