Pinay whose daughter fell to death in HK out on bail

A Filipina whose teenage daughter fell to her death from a high-rise building in Hong Kong this week was released on bail on Thursday.

Herminia Garcia was granted bail after appearing before the Eastern Court on charges of neglect and overstaying her visa for 21 years, Radio Television Hong Kong said.

She did not enter a plea before the court, however. The case was adjourned until June 4 for further inquiries, the RTHK report said.

Garcia furnished HK$100,000 in cash and a surety of H$100,000, it added.

Earlier reports said Hong Kong authorities charged Garcia over the fatal fall of her 15-year-old daughter from the high-end apartment in Repulse Bay.

Her partner, a British expat, was arrested along with her last Tuesday on suspicion of ill-treatment of a child, but has posted bail.

The RTHK report quoted defense lawyers as saying the victim's 14-year-old sister is now under the care of her father, Nick Cousins.  Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
