2 Pinoys arrested in UAE on drugs charges

A Filipino and a Filipina have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates after police found drugs during a raid on their apartment, a UAE news site reported late Wednesday.

The two, who were not immediately named, were charged with drug possession and consumption, according to a report on UAE news site Gulf News.

Dubai police arrested the female after raiding her apartment in the Muraqqabat area. The Filipino, who was in the apartment, was found to have methamphetamine in his pocket.

The report cited prosecution records showing that while Dubai police could not find the drugs in the apartment, they noticed many inside seemed to be under the influence of drugs.

While the Filipina said the Filipino was the one who brought the drugs, a search of the Filipino yielded a Dh20 note wrapped around a small plastic bag that contained the drug.

The Filipino said the drug was for his personal use. The suspects were taken to the General Department of Criminal Evidence.

Both the Filipina and Filipino admitted to the charges filed against them. The case was transferred to the criminal court.   Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
