DOLE: 100 OFWs in Kuwait to get unpaid wages by April 15

Some 100 overseas Filipino workers in Kuwait may finally get their unpaid salaries by April 15, after the Philippine Overseas Labor Office helped settle their cases.

The Department of Labor and Employment said the POLO mediated their cases through the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) 30-day conciliation-mediation mechanism.

“The OFWs came to see us and filed their request for assistance (RFA) to be paid, to get their food allowance, to stop the company’s unlawful salary deductions, and to ask Al Tawbad General Trading and Contracting Company to improve their working condition,” Labor Attache Cesar Chavez Jr. said.

He said the 100 OFWs had conducted a work stoppage after they were not paid their salaries for three months.

He said the company's general manager, Engineer Emad Salama, agreed to pay all unpaid salaries and wages on or before April 15.

He also agreed to pay the workers’ salaries before the 15th of every month, he added.

Chavez also said the company committed to provide air-conditioning units and to construct bathroom and kitchen facilities for the OFWs in their accommodation.

The company pledged to provide them food as well, he said.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
