Kin of OFW killed in Libya asks govt help to bring body home

The family of an overseas Filipino worker killed in a rocket attack in Libya last March on Tuesday asked the government to bring his remains home.

Relatives of Jupiter Adrias said they have not been informed of when the OFW's remains will be brought home, GMA Capiz stringer Christopher Yu reported.

Adrias was killed in a rocket attack in Libya last March. The Department of Labor and Employment assured financial assistance to his family.

The DOLE said Adrias, the lone Filipino fatality in the bombing in Zawiya town in Northeastern Libya, turned 31 last March 7. POEA records showed he was employed at Al Bareeq Cleaning.

Three other OFWs suffered injuries in the attack.

Adrias' father Redentor said they learned of Jupiter's death via his girlfriend who is also in Libya.

Jupiter was the eldest of seven siblings, and helped finance two of his siblings' high school and college education. He graduated from a Marine Engineering course and went to Libya to help his family make ends meet. He had stayed in Libya for nearly two years.

Jupiter was due to return to the Philippines this April when his contract was due to expire.

His family said they may arrange to have his remains brought to a funeral parlor as their house in Barangay Libas in Roxas City in Capiz is under construction.

Barangay Libas chairman Donel Alisasis said Jupiter was a good man, and that the barangay is helping his family seek assistance from the government.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
