Pinay secretary testifies in UAE court over threat case

A Filipina secretary testified before a United Arab Emirates court over an alleged threat made to her employer, a UAE news site reported Sunday.

The Filipina told prosecutors a mechanic called up her Australian employer's office and asked to speak to him.

“The caller turned... sounded very angry and demanded to speak to my boss. When I told him that he was not in, he said ‘tell him that I called and if he does not call back, I will go to the police,’” she said, according to a report on Gulf News.

She was referring to the Kosovo mechanic, 34, accused of threatening to hit the general manager inside his office and hurt his family if he did not pay Dh80,000.

But the defendant had pleaded innocent before the Dubai Court of first Instance on Sunday. “I did not threaten him,” he told the court.

The Australian claimed the incident occurred last December, saying the mechanic called him and said "he would do something bad to me and to my family if I did not pay him the money."

"I was scared and had to hire special security to guard my house and my company as well,” he added.

The Gulf News report said the suspect was cited admitting to prosecutors he called the Austrlaian and demanded Dh80,000, and that he also called the secretary.

A ruling may be expected on May 12. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
