PHL embassy in Riyadh hits back at criticisms on HSW processing

The Philippine embassy in Riyadh on Monday hit back at supposed recruiters criticizing its supposed slow pace in processing the documents of Filipino household service workers (HSWs).

In a statement posted on its website Monday, the embassy cited a story published in an English-language Saudi newspaper on the supposed delay in the processing of documents for Filipino HSWs.

It also dared these recruitment agencies to hire HSWs from other countries if they find Philippine regulations inconvenient.

"The Embassy takes strong exception to these contentions and underscores the fact that the processing by the Embassy of documents for the deployment of Filipino workers is in line with the requirements of Philippine law," it said.

Citing the report, it said the slow processing was supposedly due to the inability of Filipino foreign missions in the Kingdom "to process visas in a timely manner.”

Also, it said the report claimed Philippine missions in the Kingdom only accept five visa requests per week, "which hinders the issuance of a large amount of visas.”

The embassy said it will not allow any external entity, especially the private sector, to dictate internal time frames where Philippine government regulations are applied on documents to be used for deploying Filipino workers abroad.

"If Philippine regulations are not convenient for Saudi recruitment agencies or their clients, they should begin to consider hiring HSWs from other countries to meet the demand of their customers," it said. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
