Pinoy sailor evacuated off India after minor heart attack

A Filipino sailor was evacuated from his ship off the coast of Mangaluru in India after suffering a minor heart attack, reports said.
According to The Hindu, Mongan Ryan Frugalidad, 33, was escorted off the Eagle Strait by the Indian coast guard after the merchant vessel requested assistance from the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) on Wednesday evening.
separate report on News Karnataka said Frugalidad is now in a stable condition after he was admitted at the AJ Hospital and Research Center in nearby Kuntikana.
According to the The Times of India, the 186-meter long bulk carrier Eagle Strait was on its way from Kwangyang, South Korea to Mundra Port in Gujarat when the Filipino sailor fell ill.
It noted that the evacuation was made difficult by the ongoing monsoon season in the area.
The global shipping industry, which carries 80 percent of international trade, employs about 1.2 million seafarers, the bulk of whom come from the Philippines. Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
